All the Juillan species of tins pretty genus arc scnndcnt, whereas most of the
American aud Siberian oueh hu\e bulbous rtJots., radical leaves, aud the ilowcrs on erect
scapes. There appears to us to be no grounds for dividing the geuns, either on this
account or on the form <1"1 structure of the pods, as the same differences of habit
occur in Qory&alwt and tlwre I, a transition iu tho structure of the pod from the
membranous linear valves of the urst section, to the more or less fleshy, broad, and
almost indehiscent ones of J).
